Virtualization

Most of the time your servers do not get fully used - for a lot of machines, only a small amount of their power is used. Virtualization is a way of getting the best possible use and value out of your server hardware.

Virtualization allows you to run lots of different "virtual" servers on one physical computer. Each virtual server thinks that it is running on its own physical box. This allows you to consolidate several physical servers onto one box.

With the power of modern server hardware lots of older servers can be brought together onto a much smaller number of new boxes. This allows you to replace older, worn out hardware with more newer powerful equipment without causing any problems to the software - you can turn your old servers into virtual servers.

Alchemist have extensive experience in server virtualisation and consolidation using a wide variety of virtualisation packages, including:

  • VMware Server
  • VMware ESX
  • Microsoft Hyper-V
  • XenServer
